GIFTED AND TALENTED (GATE) PROGRAM

wELCOME TO THE GIFTED AND TALENTED (GATE) PROGRAM Minimize
The purpose of the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program is to recognize the performance capabilities of gifted students, as well as to address the unique needs and differences associated with having these abilities. The Santa Paula High School District believes that students who are gifted should be identified and appropriately challenged in areas of giftedness. Further, it is the duty of the district to continuously monitor gifted students throughout high school to ensure that they are reaching their potential. The GATE program is structured to provide appropriate curricular and instructional services that support GATE student. The GATE Program provides gifted learners with qualitatively differentiated curriculum experiences; focusing on basic skills, higher level thinking, leadership, inquiry, problem-solving and creativity.

Activities are structured to allow students to master complex curricula and at the same time, ensure that the GATE student has a firm mastery of all California Content Standards areas. Services supporting the cognitive, as well as social and emotional needs of the GATE students are essential. Gifted and talented students receive differentiated instruction in the delivery of the core curriculum and California Content Standards in order to provide them a solid foundation for learning.

State Law, Assembly Bill (AB) 2313 requires that services for gifted and talented students be planned and organized as integrated differentiated learning experiences within the regular school day.
