Occupational therapy focuses on helping people achieve independence in all areas of their lives by providing activities aimed at improving their cognitive, physical, and motor skills and enhancing their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment. Services are provided to individuals because their lives have been disrupted by physical injury or illness, developmental problems, or social or psychological difficulties. Occupational therapy is beneficial when there are concerns regarding fine motor, sensory, visual motor, and/or motor planning.

Individuals with the following medical problems or conditions may benefit from occupational therapy:
  • birth injuries or defects
  • traumatic brain/spinal injuries
  • sensory processing disorders
  • learning problems
  • autism
  • pervasive developmental disorders
  • mental health/behavior problems
  • developmental delays
  • cerbral palsy
